ASU Divisional Relationships Essay

The final assignment of the Overview Module is to write an essay in which you describe how the 3 Divisions relate to each other and how they fit together to constitute Academic Knowledge as a whole. To do this, you should describe:

1. How each Division relates to the other two. Note that to answer this you will need to:
   1. Discuss 3 different relationships:
      1. the Natural Sciences and the Social Sciences,
      2. the Natural Sciences and the Humanities, and
      3. the Social Sciences and the Humanities.
   2. For each of these 3 relationships, you should compare both:
      1. the subject matter that the two Divisions you are discussing study, and
      2. the methodologies they use to study it.
2. In a concluding paragraph, you should sum up how the 3 Divisions fit together to constitute Academic Knowledge by describing:
   1. what the full range of subjects theycombine to include is,
   2. the extent to which their methodologies complement each other (ie, in what ways they offer differing ways of understanding things), and
   3. the extent to which their methodologies are similar (ie, what features their ways of doing things share).

The essay should consist of at least 5 paragraphs:an introduction stating what they essay is about, 1 paragraph for each of the 3 relationships in 1.a. above, and the concluding paragraph outlined in 2, above.

For this assignment you should:

1. read the instructions above carefully and think hard about what they’re asking you to do,
2. go back and review the readings in the various units in the Overview module, the assignments you wrote in them, and the feedback I gave you on your assignments, and
3. plan out what you’re going to say in each of the paragraphs of your essay.

As you may have noticed by now, I don’t assign a whole lot of reading in this class, but I expect you to read what is assigned very carefully, including (especially!) the instructions to the writing assignments. So you can be sure that I’m going to be looking at your essay very carefully to see that it fulfills the assignment as laid out above by drawing on material from the readings in the course!

I will post the past readings giving 3 days for this to make sure you go through the readings I will double check that you use the readings in the paper
