Ethnography Application

You will conduct an ethnographic study, write a short analysis of what you observed, and present your findings in class. You should choose any group you want to observe in any setting. You should observe participants for a minimum of two hours. You will write field notes of anything you observe, which can be conversations, non-verbal interactions, the setting, etc. You will then try to make themes to make sense of how people or objects interact in that space.

Participants Overview: (1-3 paragraphs) You will write about who you are observing and why you want to observe them.

Literature Review: (3 sources min, 1-3 paragraphs) You will find three sources that help you make sense of either your participants, the setting, or acts in this place. Write about how these sources will help you here.

Field Notes: (1page minimum) You will write your field notes of what you observe as conversations, non-verbal interactions, the setting, etc.

Analysis: (2 pages minimum) You will write up how you now understand the group you observed. You will write this in a story/observational way. Remember that this should have some themes of how you observed the setting, people, or actions. Two minimum themes.

Works Cited/References page: (3 Citations) Cite the sources for your information about your participants, settings, or acts. You can cite any additional information you used as well.
